Run for Your Favorite Hero!

Every single day you will find a team of “Super Heroes” working to advance health care at Dignity Health. Our Heroes in Health Care 5K Run on September 29th at Freestone Park in Gilbert, is a great way to honor a special person, or team, and their efforts.

Participants get to choose which of the many worthy programs at Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert hospitals they would like to support such as: the Stroke Center, Children’s Dental Clinic, and Women’s Imaging or Diabetes Management, just to name a few. After selecting a cause, each runner will build a team which they will get to promote to family and friends on their own online race page.

Our race day schedule is as follows:
6:00 am Registration
7:00 am Super Heroes 5k Begins
7:10 am F.A.S.T. Stroke Awareness 1 Mile Run/Walk Begins
7:20 am Kids Dash 100 Yard Begins
8:15 am Awards Ceremony

As a participant, you will reap some heroic benefits such as: 1) Awards for each 5K age group, 2) Photos, 3) Custom event medals, 4) T-shirts, and 5) Brunch and Food trucks. Perhaps the greatest benefit of all will be the satisfaction of supporting one of the many worthy programs and the amazing people who work at Dignity Health! So lace up your running shoes and get ready to race for your favorite champion!

Power of the Purse
The ladies of the Power of the Purse women’s philanthropic organization recently spent a lovely evening at the Lund House at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. The purpose of the gathering was to cook a multi-course meal for families staying at the Lund House, a beautiful residence run by the Hospice of the Valley. Families can stay at the House as long as they like with their loved ones, and this event offered POP members the opportunity to provide greatly appreciated meals. The group also provided treats and cards to the families to show love and support in their time of need.

Thanks to all who support our mission...  Dignity Health is expanding services in the East Valley.

We are partnering with both the City of Chandler and the Maricopa County Department of Oral Health to sustain and grow the Children’s Dental Clinic. The Clinic provides preventive and restorative dental care to children in low-income households who might not otherwise have access to traditional dental care. This past year, with funding of $166,000 from the City of Chandler and other funders, the Clinic was able to provide dental services to 1019 children and educate 2759 families, far exceeding its goals.

The inaugural community education lecture featured the esteemed neurosurgeon Dr. Chen from Barrows Neurological Institute. Dr. Chen discussed Deep Brain Stimulation techniques used to treat patients with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions. Typically, patients undergoing the treatment remain awake during the hours- long surgery. However, this life transforming treatment is being offered as asleep deep brain stimulation. Patients who meet certain criteria are treated under general anesthesia which drastically reduces the surgery time from several hours to minutes. Such cutting edge technology is being offered at Chandler Regional as part of our Dignity Rising expansion.
