Success!

Success can mean different things to different people. We at the Dignity Health Foundation -East Valley measure success not only by financial goals reached, we also measure by the lives we have touched and the people we have helped. In other words, by our ability to deliver humankindness. We cannot help but smile as we reflect on the past year’s events and activities which brought joy, tears, laughter and applause from the beneficiaries of our programs and the benefactors who so generously gave of their time and resources to support our initiatives and many outreach programs into our community.  As we review our accomplishments for 2018 and applaud the almost $3 million raised, we also look forward with great optimism for, and a strong commitment to, expanding health care in the East Valley through Diginity Rising.

As you make your year-end charitable donations we ask that you consider a gift to the Foundation that puts 100 percent of your gift to work advancing health care with humankindness, along with serving the poor and disenfranchised.  If you are 70.5 years old, you may take your IRA year end distribution and donate to your favorite charity as well.  Contact the Dignity Health Foundation East Valley to discuss any of your charitable giving and, of course, consult your tax advisor.  Here's to 2019!

Dancing with Dignity

Success from dancing means more patients in more rehab and wellness programs, like Stroke Camp.  The signature fundraiser was held on a beautiful fall evening that began with cocktails and a delicious buffet under the stars at the Chandler Center for Performing Arts. Guests were then ushered into the main stage where they were entertained by talented volunteer teams performing dance routines to this year’s 1980s theme “Let’s Get Physical." First responders from Chandler Police and Gilbert Fire departments joined the fun.

The competition was stiff as a panel of judges awarded prizes to the teams. The fun did not stop there, however, as guests had a chance to strut their own stuff on the dance floor to the tunes of a DJ at the after-party.

The success would not have been possible without the generosity of all volunteers, especially the dancer volunteers who spent several months training with professional teachers from Arizona Ballroom Champions.  It was also the most financially successful Fund-a-Need (a pledge of money) in the history of this gala! Thanks to the major event sponsors Encompass Health Rehab Hospital, United Surgical Partners, Air Methods, and Dignity Health Rehab Hospital for underwriting.

  Winning the Race

This year also brough three "fun runs" - the Family Fun Run and the Heroes in Health Care Fun Run, plus an indoor triathalon. Success included aspiring athletes of all ages joining in on a variety of healthy races and raising money to support Heaven’s Hummingbirds, the perinatal bereavement support group, as well as departments at Dignity Health hospitals such as Women’s Imaging, the Stroke Center and also the Children’s Dental Clinic. The indoor triathalon successfully supported Faith Hope and Love Brain Tumor Programs.

These events were created through the generous support and sponsorship of: the Butson, Mathias and Boller Families, Valley Women for Women, Fit Body Tempe and Ahwatukee, Ananda Salon, Bright Health, Hangar Clinic and Native Air, a part of Air Methods.

Please contact the Foundation, or any member of Heaven’s Hummingbirds, to sponsor or volunteer to create success in 2019.

Dignity Health is expanding services in the ever-growing East Valley. In response, the Foundation launched the Dignity Rising campaign in 2018.

They say that laughter is the best medicine and this bit of wisdom was put to the test during our combined comedy show and George Rosza Golf Classic held at the beautiful Ocotillo Golf Club this past April. Laughter abounded at the golf competition during the day, while guests enjoyed dinner, an auction of amazing prizes and trips and a comedian that left us in stitches in the evening.  Thanks to major sponsors Envision Physician Services, Wells Fargo, Heart Health Organization, Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals, SRP, United Surgical Partners, McCarthy, Chandler Anesthesia Consultants, Medical Staff, BigTwo Toyota and Earnhardt Ford. The success of the event pushed the Dignity Rising campaign to over $2 million raised. Read more »

The Childrens’ Dental Clinic is one of the largest and most successful outreach program in the East Valley. It is the only facility in Chandler (and new this year to Gilbert) where children from low-income homes can receive free dental care. Since its beginnings in 2008, the Chandler Children’s Dental Clinic has provided no-cost preventive services, facilitated referrals for restorative dental work, provided dental supplies to children, and educated families on proper dental hygiene and care. This is definitely a success with many thanks to the help of the City of Chandler, the County, First Things First, Delta Dental and Thunderbird Charities.

On Giving Tuesday we asked everyone to make EVERY Tuesday a Giving Tuesday and donate $2 each week to take one child off the waiting list in 2019. Read more »

In addition to the Groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the new Women's and Children's Pavilion at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, a humankindness building perimeter photo was taken to demonstrate the impact this new facility will have on the families of the East Valley. It was a very successful November morning thanks to our partners at Phoenix Children's, JE Dunn and Cannon Design, along with our key volunteers. Keep watching for activities, events and investment opportunities for the Dignity Rising campaign. Read more »
