Power of the Purse

This well-known expression for financial strength takes on a new meaning at Dignity Health. The Power of the Purse, our women’s philanthropic society, supports patients and families in the Southeast Valley. The volunteers and board members of this group of like-minded ladies have been fundraising all year, and they are approaching their goal of $85,000 to support these projects:  3D mammography equipment, a bed-mapping system to ensure the timeliness of care in our hospitals, and the very popular Stroke Camp by Refresh and Retreat.  Thanks to the society’s efforts, we were able to add another camp in August, in addition to our regularly scheduled June retreat.

Please join this group of dynamic ladies and make a difference in the  lives of families in our community.  To learn more about Power of the Purse, their fun Fall events, or to make a gift today visit: powerofpurse.org.

Helping Employees Reach Others (the HERO Fund)

AmazonThis fund was announced in June and is off to a slow start... donations by HEROs are needed to support Dignity Health team members who find themselves in an extreme situation.  The Human Resources Team will counsel, support and recommend the employee for assistance.  The Foundation Team is fundraising, both inside and outside of the hospital, to support the caregivers and get them back on their feet supporting patients.  Please donate today to start filling up this fund and supporting those in need.

Grant Cycle Opens in August

Funds raised by the Foundation and volunteers are given back through two grant cycles each year- August and February.  During this time, employees are able to request grant support for innovative programs, research, medical education or equipment that is needed to provide high-quality care to patients and their families. Such requests are presented for approval first by hospital leadership and the Foundation Finance Committee, and then by the Foundation Board. Upon approval, funds will reach the departments approximately 90 days after submission.

Several Dignity Health funded and supported programs are well known such as Paws for Patients, the Refresh and Retreat Stroke Camp, and the Children’s Dental Clinic. However, our community outreach extends well beyond those programs to include children’s vision and hearing screenings, immunizations, teen pregnancy support, concussion prevention, athletic trainers in Chandler and Gilbert high schools, and many more.

The Foundation also supports programs within the hospital that, for example, improve a cancer patient family’s stay by providing access to the Hospice of the Valley family lounge, cell phone charging stations, blanket warmers and cancer care baskets.  Our donors’ generosity has also enabled us to provide hundreds of hours of both medical training and research most recently related to improving care for trauma patients and equipping additional trauma and emergency personnel.

Pictured here is one of the Emergency Room team members showing off a new portable EKG machine provided by grant funds in order to reach patients swiftly with this important diagnostic test.

Employees with an idea for a program or a request for equipment should contact the Foundation. Prospective donors seeking more information on what we do are also encouraged to contact the Foundation at 480-728-3931.

Starting with Laughter is the Best Medicine – including Sinbad and Bill Engval – and moving to George Rozsa Golf Classic, Dancing with the Docs, and now Dancing for Stroke.  It’s no surprise we would partner up with Bellwether as their motto is:

“We help you dream it up and then we make it happen. We partner with our clients and are just as invested in producing jaw-dropping, wildly successful events as they are. With our collaboration, anything is possible! www.bellwethershow.com

So get your tickets for Dancing for Stroke AZ and see what’s in store for you this year!
