Volunteer Leaves a Legacy to Chandler Regional, Gift Shop Named in Her Honor

Appeal Banner

The late Ella Learner, a dedicated hospital volunteer and Holocaust survivor, gave of her time, talent and treasure to support Chandler Regional Medical Center for more than 26 years. Ella lived to celebrate her 100th birthday. She retired from volunteering in the gift shop in 2016 and was honored with the United States Presidential Service Award for her many years of dedicated services. Ella named Chandler Regional Medical Center as a beneficiary in her estate. The inspiring life and legacy of giving Ella provided was honored by naming the gift shop at Chandler Regional. Pictured in the photo are her rabbi, close friends and Dignity Health Southwest Division leader Tim Bricker, who was also a friend of Ella's.

Exemplary Nurses Provide Excellent Patient Care

Chandler Regional Medical Center dedicated The Healer's Touch statue in honor of Peg Smith's 25 years of service to patients and families.

The statue symbolizes the caring relationship between nurses, patients and families. Nurses who are honored with The Daisy Award are given a small replica of this statue for being an outstanding role model in the nursing community. Daisy Award recipients consistently demonstrate excellence in clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care.

Thank you, Peg Smith, for humbly serving our community, and for serving as the Chief Nursing Executive. Peg is an outstanding role model and personifies our commitment to remarkable patient experience.

The Daisy Award is a national award honoring nurses, you may give a gift in gratitude and also honor your nurse or care team.

Thank a Caregiver Who Made a Difference!

The Dignity Health East Valley Guardian Angel Program provides a meaningful way for patients or family members to honor a physician, nurse, volunteer or any staff member who provided excellent care during their visit. We are thankful to the Husband and Wife Law Team for sponsoring this special program of gratitude.

Our newest Guardian Angel, David, was inspired to serve our ministry as a volunteer after receiving compassionate care during his personal treatment of a brain tumor. Now living in Scottsdale, he goes out of his way to get to Chandler to share his passion for spreading hope to all he meets at Chandler Regional.

This special man is known by many, and was recently recognized with a gift made by a grateful patient and his family. This gift included a nomination to honor David as an incredible volunteer and Guardian Angel.

The Dignity Health Foundation staff has an amazing grants program led by Laurel Vetsch and interim strategist Michelle Gross-Panico. We are blessed to have these ladies leading the robust grant request program where we submit over $5 million in requests a year and traditionally have a success rate of securing grants at 30% or securing one a month. Grants from corporations, private foundation and government grants are vital to our ability to care for the poor and disenfranchised.
