Joining Forces to Improve Oral Health

Dignity Health is proud of its collaborative efforts both with the City of Chandler and with the Maricopa County Department of Oral Health to sustain and grow the Children’s Dental Clinic. The Children’s Dental Clinic, which is housed in the Chandler Care Center, provides preventive and restorative dental care to children in low-income households in the community who might not otherwise have access to traditional dental care. This past year, with funding of $166,000 from the City of Chandler, the Children’s Dental Clinic was able to provide dental services to 1019 children and educate 2759 adults and children in the community on dental care, far exceeding its goals for the 2017-2018 fiscal year.

Dignity Health has also partnered with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) to provide oral prevention programs through the First Things First Program. By reaching out to families, school nurses, educators, pediatricians and general dentists, Chandler Medical Center has been able to actively develop programs that include oral health education to families and caregivers, oral health screenings for children and expectant mothers, and referrals to dentists and hygienists for follow-up care. Through a generous grant from MCDPH of $405,000, the Dental Clinic was able to provide 5400 screenings and fluoride treatments, as well as educational sessions to over 250 adults in the East and Southeast Maricopa areas. Thanks to the generosity of our partners we were able to again exceed our goals this past year in providing oral health care to the neediest populations.
