Vice President of Philanthropy

Julie Alvarado is a proven innovative leader in both non-profit and private business sectors with over 30 years of experience in communications, development, and community relations. 

Previously, Julie held development and community affairs positions with Motorola, General Dynamics and Arizona State University, and she is co-owner of Arizona Brewery Tours, a family business. Julie earned a master's degree magna cum laude in educational leadership from Ottawa University and a bachelor's from Arizona State in communications and political science.

Fundraising responsibilities at Dignity Health have included board development, donor acquisition, grateful patient, major gifts, capital campaign, stewardship programs, affinity groups, events, employee giving, plus marketing and researching innovative new ways to reach donors. Her prior public affairs background makes her perfect for cultivating relationships with local and regional businesses and professional sports franchises, as well as coordinating third-party fundraisers or major events like the George Rozsa Golf Classic, Lou Grubb Friends Fore Golf, Laughter is the Best Medicine and Celebrity Fight Night.

Julie is an Arizona native and a graduate of Valley Leadership. She was a recipient of the Phoenix Business Journal’s 40-under-40 Award and the Arizona National Guard's Meritorious Service Medal. Julie and her husband, John, have been very active in the community including supporting the local Valley of the Sun United Way, YMCA, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. They adopted two of their four children and became involved in several behavioral health, foster and adoptive care organizations. They enjoy sports, camping and outdoor activities with their teenager, Jaxon, and two active grandsons.
