With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Linda Hunt. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched throughout her remarkable life. Her legacy of kindness, integrity, and visionary leadership will forever be woven into the fabric of Dignity Health.
Linda retired in 2022 as the President and CEO of Dignity Health’s Southwest Division, closing a chapter on a distinguished career that spanned more than five decades in healthcare. Since joining our organization in 1998, she worked tirelessly to expand access to compassionate, high-quality care—particularly for those most in need. Her impact was felt not only in Arizona but across the nation, as she shaped the future of health care and medical education with humility, clarity, and conviction.
Always a nurse at heart, Linda’s life was rooted in service. Whether advocating for underserved communities or mentoring the next generation of leaders, her commitment centered on the patient, the family, and the team who cared for them. Her grace, wisdom, and genuine care uplifted everyone around her.
Linda’s deep connection to the East Valley left an indelible mark on our community. She was instrumental in welcoming Chandler Regional Medical Center into the Dignity Health family and played a vital role in opening Mercy Gilbert Medical Center alongside the Sisters of Mercy nearly 20 years ago. Her visionary leadership also brought national and international acclaim to our region through the elevation of St. Joseph’s Hospital into a premier academic medical center, the advancement of Barrow Neurological Institute, and the establishment of the Norton Thoracic Institute—bringing world-class care to Arizona and beyond.
Her journey began with humble roots—working first as a Walgreens clerk and then as a secretary for a Louisiana construction company—before enrolling in nursing school. From there, she rose through the ranks with determination and heart: nurse, nurse leader, hospital executive, hospital president, and ultimately, division president at CommonSpirit Health.
Linda was often described as a leader with a servant’s heart. She led with purpose and conviction, driven by a mission to improve the health of all people, especially the vulnerable. Her commitment to social justice and human dignity enriched the lives of thousands.
Linda’s presence will be profoundly missed—by her Dignity Health family, by communities across Arizona, and by all who had the honor of knowing her. We remain deeply grateful for her life of service, and we will carry her spirit forward in all that we do.
