Creating a Legacy of Care: The Richards Family Story
Alexis and Garrett Richards are passionate about fostering health and wellness in our community.
Alexis and her family hold a special place in their hearts for Dignity Health East Valley. As a young adult, she worked at Chandler Regional Medical Center alongside her grandfather, Dr. Terry Happel, who served as a community physician and hospital leader for over 40 years before retiring as Chief Medical Officer in 2016.
Garrett, who enjoyed a prestigious professional baseball career for more than a decade, shares Alexis’ passion for the health and well-being of young athletes. Together in 2016, they established the Garrett and Alexis Richards Endowment to support the Sports Medicine program at Dignity Health East Valley, ensuring student athletes across the East Valley will receive the care they need to maximize their potential. In 2022, Alexis joined the Dignity Health East Valley Foundation Board of Directors, expanding her impact as a philanthropist and volunteer.
“We are humbled and grateful to have found a meaningful way to engage and give back to Dignity Health, an organization that has meant so much to us and our family over the years. We‘re eager to connect with other young families who are passionate about elevating health care in the East Valley.”
The Richards family hosts an annual charity fundraising event, “Swinging for Sports Medicine,” bringing together community supporters and professional baseball players to raise awareness and garner support for their vision of care. The proceeds from this vibrant event go to fund the Athletic Training programs at middle schools and high schools throughout Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek and Maricopa public school districts, impacting more than 22,000 student athletes each year.
