Summer Volunteens Give Back!

Since July of 2017, our Dignity Health Summer Volunteens have filled and distributed over 1000 Giving Back Packs for the homeless through our urgent care centers, emergency departments and throughout our community.  Many students even carried the project into their schools.  This summer our 2018 Summer Volunteens are hoping to fill 500 more Giving Back Packs for the homeless as their summer service project.  The teens ask for in-kind donations from staff, adult volunteers, and community partners.

The Dignity Health East Valley Volunteers are collecting essential personal care items to be placed in Back Packs for distribution to the homeless.  Collection bins are available to take donations at the information desks at both Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers from July 1 – 18, 2018.   Personal care items include any of the following (individual or in bulk quantities): small tooth brushes and paste, small shampoo, soap, deodorant, hand sanitizer, small sunscreen, baby wipes, socks, hats, even non-melting granola bars and 16.9 ounce bottles of water.   You may also drop off special cards or notes of encouragement.

You can participate and help put our Mission into Motion (to serve and advocate for the disadvantaged in our community)  by saving those small personal care items and dropping the items in collection boxes by the information desks at Chandler Regional or Mercy Gilbert Medical Center.  Our special volunteers, called Volunteens are holding a drive for items July 1-18 and they will carefully write notes of encouragement, place the notes and items in “Giving Back Packs,” and distribute to the homeless through our Urgent Care Centers, our Emergency Departments and outreach programs throughout their summer stay with us. Please note that personal care items include SMALL versions of toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, water, deodorant, hand sanitizer, sun screen, baby wipes, non-melting granola bars. New hats and socks also welcome.

If you have any questions, please contact Volunteer Services Valerie.Heninger@dignityhealth.org (MGMC) or Lori.Mercer@dignityhealth.org (CRMC).   The Foundation is also available for donation receipts at eastvalleyfoundation@dignityhealth.org.
