Dignity Rising: Progress

Pardon our Dust!

The East Valley’s population has grown at a record-breaking pace, and is projected to continue growing by more than one million new residents over the next 30 years.

To continue providing world-class healthcare, and to prepare for the coming growth of our community, we launched Dignity Rising in 2018.

Dancing with Dignity

Growing by leaps and bounds!

What started out with a mere $25k grant five years ago, the annual Dancing with Dignity event has now raised and invested over $1 million towards support programs, equipment and training for caregivers. One of the beneficiaries of this event’s proceeds includes our Stroke Camp program.

Stroke Camp provides an amazing experience where both survivors and caregivers travel to the mountains outside of Phoenix to relax, refresh and retreat from their health issues and from the daily tasks of caregiving.

Where Do Your Donations Go?

In 2019, donation funds were allocated in the following manner:

  • 51% Equipment and Expansion
  • 26% Education
  • 5% Community Outreach
  • 18% Programs

Thank you for your generous spirit!

2019 Physician Champion

Mia Van Eken

A dedicated physician, wife, mother and triathlete, we are proud to name Dr. Mia Van Eken as this year’s Physician Champion. Dr. Eken is the owner and practicing physician with Valley Women for Women. She has served as a Foundation volunteer board member for almost a decade, with the past two years in a leadership role as board secretary. Dr. Eken is also the former Director of Maternal Child Health at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center.

Dr. Eken was the first official physician champion of our Grateful Patient and Family Program.

Dignity Health Foundation Board of Directors

Did you know our Board Members are all community volunteers?

They provide leadership and direction to the Foundation to see that families in our community receive high-quality health care delivered with humankindness and dignity.

And they do it all in their spare time. A big thank you to these fine folks.

2019 Board Member of the Year

JW Rayhons

No one epitomizes the name “Community Servant” more than this year’s Board Member of the Year award recipient, JW Rayhons. For more than a decade, JW has served as a volunteer, public speaker, financial advisor and Treasurer and Chairman of the Foundation Board of Directors. Under JW’s tenure, the board was able to more effectively develop its fundraising, granting and operations, allowing us to increase our fundraising by $1 million and successfully kickoff our capital campaign.

Commitment to Ethics

Dignity Health Foundation East Valley adheres to the Association of Fundraising Professionals "Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice."

Ethical standards and principles are the foundation for maintaining public trust, for every AFP member. AFP provides a self-governed process for addressing ethical concerns.

Dental Clinic

Dignity Health is proud of our collaborative efforts with the City of Chandler and the Maricopa County Department of Oral Health to sustain and grow the Children’s Dental Clinic. The clinic provides preventive and restorative dental care to children in low-income households who might not otherwise have access. Big news for this past year, we have also expanded these dental services to the children of Gilbert.

Our Employees Rock

Dignity Health East Valley employees have stepped up to the plate by supporting our Dignity Rising efforts. Setting a record with their employee donation campaign this past Spring, more than $1.2 million was raised!

This level of giving demonstrates how excited they are about our future. We are humbled and grateful for our employees’ generosity.

Community Health Care Partners

Our corporate partners help make a profound difference in our community by joining forces with the Dignity Health Foundation East Valley.

Their participation signifies a commitment to our community, and a desire to help assure that Dignity Health continues to be one of the most advanced health care facilities in the area for the benefit of their business and their employees.
